If you are looking for an adventurous trip across the United States, then Route 66 is the way to go!

Starting in Chicago, Illinois, you will have plenty to see and do on your way to Los Angeles, California.

Chicago to Oklahoma on Route 66

Starting in Illinois, you might want to spend a night or two in Chicago itself before you leave.

The first main stop that you are likely to make is in Springfield, Illinois where you can visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site and the Old State Capitol State Historic Site to name just a few.

After this you will continue on to Cuba, Missouri.  There are a number of fascinating museums as well as speciality shops and antique malls.

It is also the home of the world’s largest rocking chair!  Your next stop, also in Missouri is Springfield.  No, this is not a typing error!

Springfield is a common name in the USA and 35 states have a town or city with this name.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Centre, the local Discover Centre and the Fantastic Caverns are some of the top attractions in Springfield, Missouri.

Then it’s on to Tulsa and Clinton, Oklahoma.  Each of which has a number of local museums, historic sites, gardens parks and more to enjoy.

Texas to Los Angeles on Route 66

Alternatively, if you make your way to Williams, Arizona, you can park the car and take a scenic train ride to the Grand Canyon and back.

Crossing over from Arizona into California, you will pass through Needles.  Feel free to stop here and visit the local parks before taking on the final part of this drive.

Feel free stop at other California towns and sites like Victorville and enjoy a good look at Mt San Antonio as you approach Los Angeles.

When in Los Angeles, one of your main stops should be a visit to Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Nethercutt Museum, Griffith Park and Westwood Memorial Park are also great places to visit while you are here.
